The Nasdaq 100 on Crypto Rails: How Breakout's 24/7 Index Trading Works
A stock index inside a crypto prop firm
Breakout — the Kraken-backed crypto prop firm — has listed the Nasdaq 100 as its first market outside crypto. In the Breakout Terminal it trades under the ticker XYZ100, and it works like every other instrument on the platform: same account, same drawdown rules, same fees (0.04% per side), same on-demand payouts. It's available on evaluation and funded accounts from day one — no new account, nothing to opt into.
A week after launch, Breakout raised the limits: as of 27 July 2026, XYZ100 trades at 5x leverage with a $1,000,000 max position — up from 2x and $100K at launch, and identical to BTC and ETH, the platform's largest instruments. A $200K funded account now has the buying power to reach the full cap.
Why this is genuinely different
Every futures prop firm will fund you to trade the Nasdaq (as NQ or MNQ futures). But futures come with session structure baked in:
- ›Market hours and maintenance breaks — CME equity futures close daily 17:00–18:00 ET and all weekend.
- ›Many firms force flat overnight or through news, or restrict holding.
- ›Daily settlement marks your open positions every day.
Breakout's implementation removes all of that. XYZ100 prices 24/7, including weekends, with no time limits, no forced closes, no daily settlement. If your strategy is a three-day swing on the index, you can run it exactly the way you'd run a BTC swing — from the same account, even at the same time.
That combination — index exposure with crypto-market session freedom — didn't exist at any prop firm we track until now.
The sizing math at 5x
Leverage on Breakout is auto-applied; there's no setting to change. At 5x:
- ›A $100K notional position in XYZ100 requires $20K of account capital (it took $50K at the launch leverage of 2x).
- ›The $1M cap is reachable from a $200K account at full leverage.
The risk rules don't move, though: your 3% daily loss and your account's static max drawdown (3–6% depending on Turbo/Pro/Classic) are unchanged. At 5x, a 0.6% move against a full-size position eats a whole day's loss budget on the tightest accounts — the leverage upgrade is room to size *well*, not an invitation to size *up*.
The catch: 24/7 pricing, but not a 24/7 index
This is the part Breakout is refreshingly upfront about. The underlying Nasdaq 100 only trades 9:30–16:00 ET, Monday to Friday. Outside those hours XYZ100 keeps pricing through Breakout's own model, with its own price discovery — so:
- ›Spreads widen overnight and on weekends.
- ›The price can diverge from the index value you see on TradingView or your broker, most noticeably outside market hours.
- ›The reopen can gap — a weekend position can jump against you Monday 9:30 ET.
Practical rule: treat off-hours XYZ100 like a thin altcoin, not like the index. Size smaller into the close on Friday, and expect the Monday open to be an event.
Who this is for
- ›Crypto traders who want index diversification without a second firm, second platform or second evaluation — the strongest case. One account, one set of rules, both markets.
- ›Index swing traders frustrated by futures-firm overnight rules — being able to hold NQ-style exposure through the week without forced closes is a real structural edge, if you respect the off-hours spread.
- ›Not for scalpers who need exchange-grade tick data and depth — XYZ100 is synthetic index exposure priced by Breakout, not CME order flow. If your edge lives in the microstructure, trade NQ at a futures firm.
The accounts it runs on
Breakout's three 1-Step programs all get XYZ100 at the new limits (full specs on our Breakout page):
- ›Turbo — 9% target, 3% daily, 3% static drawdown (cheapest entry)
- ›Pro — 12% target, 3% daily, 5% static
- ›Classic — 10% target, 3% daily, 6% static (most buffer)
